Purchase a piece of Johns Hopkins history...
Purchase tiles from the famous Johns Hopkins Hospital dome and help Angels of the OR, Inc. provide a patient with neurological services.
One hundred sixteen years of Johns Hopkins Hospital history have passed beneath the landmark dome, and now a limited number of its original roofing tiles are available for sale. Proceeds will help Angels of the OR, Inc. remove the barriers that block patients from receiving needed neurological care.
Opened in 1889, the original Johns Hopkins Hospital building
hadn’t had new roofing tiles installed until a complete exterior
restoration in 2005. A few of the 7" x 14" slate tiles that covered the
dome in an overlapping, fish-scale pattern were saved.
These tiles not only weathered Baltimore’s summers and
winters, they sheltered the founders of Hopkins Medicine—Osler, Welch,
Halsted, Kelly—as well as generations of
their successors, students,
staff and patients.
Today, Johns Hopkins Medicine, in partnership with Angels of the OR, Inc. is offering these unique mementos of Hopkins heritage mounted in superbly crafted frames, each bearing a Certificate of Authenticity from Hopkins’ Alan Mason Chesney Medical Archives.
These limited edition tiles can now be purchased for $595. Funds raised through the sale will be used for a unique dual purpose:
- To enable Angels of the OR, Inc. to further its mission of funding neurological services to patients who have no ability to pay
- To continue the Johns Hopkins tradition of serving the East Baltimore community
